“Mi cultura me enseñó a ser fuerte, and my son showed me what that strength is truly for.”
My journey as a mother of an autistic behavior child began midst covid. At first, I didn’t want to admit that something may be different with my son, I thought to myself surely boys develop differently, I also told myself it was because I had moved so far away from my immediate family that maybe Jax did not have the same opportunities to develop a connection with his nana and tíos. It wasn’t until he turned eighteen months is when major regression began and the battle to be heard in a time where the world had shut down, was absolutely frustrating. Understanding my son and his diagnosis was the very reason I finished my undergraduate, perused a career in ABA and am in my graduate program to become a BCBA. Girasol was founded on the desire to provide families the resources, space and strength to advocate for their child and promote inclusivitiy and awareness surounding neurodiversity within our communities.
